Bellevue Hill House

Sitting high on the ridge in Bellevue Hill this existing home has a wonderful vantage point overlooking Double Bay and looking west towards the city skyline. The original brief was to create a soundproof music room under the house. A few years later we are seeing the completion of a very large alterations and additions project. As happens with many projects they often start with one component and grow from there.

The client’s desire to create a soundproof and acoustically tuned space led DKC to design a room that literally floats within the sandstone bedrock and prevents sound waves travelling upwards through the home. An incredibly technical feat involving many consultants.

In the process of designing the Music room underground it was decided to also build a private entry under the home via the garage. By creating this tunnelled entry, DKC designed a seamless and easy way of entering the home and avoiding the long steep stairs from the street.

This beautiful home was completely renovated from within, creating modern, light filled spaces that are now warm and inviting via the introduction of skylights throughout. The home now has the grand entry it deserves with a beautiful spiral staircase that leads to the upstairs living and entertaining area. Extensive alterations to the large upstairs terrace have also created a sensational outdoor entertaining area that can be opened or closed with bespoke shutters that will protect the home from the harsh western sun. The external entry and extensive landscaping have helped to complete this very substantial project. Interior Designer, Jodie Blampied from Style Merchants has created a very elegant and stylish interior which pairs beautifully with the architecture.

Project is estimated to be complete in November 22
