Perisher Huette
Perisher Valley, NSW

The committee of the Perisher Huette Ski Club, a club with over 250 members, commissioned Design King Company to prepare a scheme for the upgrade of their existing 1960s ski lodge.

The existing building was heritage listed, being one of Australia’s early club lodges. It had been energetically maintained by committee members but due to its age, and contemporary requirements for accommodation, was in need of serious renovation and enlargement. With an increase in existing bedroom sizes and a new bedroom wing came a new lounge room and basement games room, and an upgrade of all public areas, facilities and services.

The final form of the building required careful integration of a new 400m2 wing with the existing building, which was renovated and much of the existing building was retained and restored. The harsh environment of perisher valley at 1700 meters above sea level makes many demands an a building, and these were carefully allowed for in the design of the facades, roof form and detailing of openings. A new kitchen is planned for 2011and numerous smaller renovations have occurred over the 10 years since the lodges completion. Jon King has also become a member of the committee of Perisher Huette and a delegate for the Australian Alpine Club.
