After many years of ongoing involvement with the ski club Design King has been asked to proceed with plans to upgrade the lodge in what would be a second stage of renovations undertaken by us as architects. The upgrade consists of a complete overhaul of the kitchen area which has served the 300 members of the club since the 1970’s. It will involve renewal and upgrading of all appliances, completely new joinery and some structural works as ventilation and ceiling, wall and floor finishes are all upgraded to contemporary standards. That said the existing kitchen has been a fantastic bench mark and great care will be required to ensure this new work functions beautifully for a further 30 or more years.
Cooking in the lodge is a communal affair with all guests required to provide and cook all their own meals. Food storage and facilities in general work very hard during the winter months and finishes and systems need to have a commercial strength and utility, however importantly this kitchen should have a warm and domestic sensibility.
