In New Zealand the fish are bigger more plentiful and sweeter tasting than in Australia they say. This big snapper I caught just outside Deep Cove in 20m of water was a real thrill and it tasted superb. The trip gave us the opportunity to look at what some of New Zealand’s human big fish had built around this wonderful waterway and I was really impressed with the sensitivity and beauty of many of these houses. The house pictured by well known New Zealand Architect Pete Bosely is owned by one of New New Zealand’s most prominent entrepeneurs Craig Heatly. The site contains two substantial guest houses, a manager’s house, a helicopter hanger and a tunnel through to a deep water wharf. It is all magnificently set into its natural setting using simple materials and building systems. Understated but beautiful.
