From December through to March Design King have coordinated with the City of Sydney’s “Streetware Temporary Art Program to utilize the currently empty commercial space in the front of our building in Alberta Street. “Streetware” is an initiative of City Art, the City of Sydney’s Public Art program. The current artist “in residence is Denise Litchfield with a range of knitted pieces that are in direct contrast to the raw and industrial concrete surfaces of our building. http://www.grrlandog.com/projects Of most interest to us as architects is a demonstration of the power of art to transform an empty and underutilized space. It changes the reading of the space and what was once lifeless is now considered commercially viable. As a result the small but extremely well located space is now planned to be cast as a culinary outlet specializing in quality coffee and macaroons? It will certainly be convenient for the office!
